Police Nab Suspected Drug Dealer With ₦5.8m Haul In Anambra
Police arrest suspected drug dealer in Anambra, recovering illicit substances worth ₦5.8m during intelligence-led patrol.
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer and recovered a large quantity of suspected illicit substances estimated at ₦5.8 million.
The suspect, identified as Chinedu Nwankwo, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, August 29, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Team during an intelligence-driven patrol along the Nteje-Otuocha Road in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the arrest in a statement, saying the operatives recovered suspected Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine and Colorado, popularly known as Colos, from the suspect.
According to the police, Nwankwo was allegedly transporting the substances to Otuocha, Anyamelium, Nzam, Umuleri and Aguleri for delivery to suspected criminal elements.
Investigators are also examining a possible connection between the drug consignment and activities capable of disrupting the ongoing local government council elections in the state.
The police said the suspect and recovered exhibits remain in custody while investigations continue to establish the full extent of his alleged activities and identify other individuals connected to the suspected network.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the officers involved for their vigilance and sustained patrols, particularly during the election period.
Ama warned that illicit drugs could contribute to criminality by providing resources and emboldening individuals involved in violent and other criminal activities.
He directed officers to sustain intelligence-led operations and targeted raids on suspected criminal hideouts and other locations of interest across the state.
The commissioner said the command would continue working with other security agencies to prevent criminal activities and protect residents.
The police also assured residents that efforts would be sustained to maintain public safety and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
The arrest comes amid heightened security operations in Anambra as authorities intensify efforts to prevent criminal activities during the local government elections.
The command said the ongoing investigation would determine whether the suspect acted alone or was part of a wider distribution network.
Authorities have not disclosed whether additional arrests have been made in connection with the recovered substances.
The suspect remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations and any subsequent legal action.
