Police Foil Bandit Attack in Sokoto, Recover Rocket Launchers
Police in Sokoto foiled a planned bandit attack, recovering rocket launchers, ammunition and other weapons during an operation.
The Sokoto State Police Command has foiled a planned attack by suspected bandits and recovered rocket launchers, ammunition and other weapons during a security operation.
The operation was carried out following intelligence on the movement of suspected bandits within the state.
Police operatives reportedly mobilised to intercept the attackers before they could execute their planned assault, forcing them to abandon their weapons and flee into the surrounding area.
Among the items recovered were rocket launchers, firearms, ammunition and other military-grade equipment believed to have been intended for use during the attack.
The police said the recovery was a significant development in ongoing efforts to disrupt the activities of bandits and other criminal groups operating in Sokoto and neighbouring communities.
Security personnel have intensified patrols and surveillance across areas identified as vulnerable to attacks, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
The latest operation comes amid continued military and police efforts across north-western Nigeria to tackle banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violent crime.
Authorities said security agencies would continue coordinated operations aimed at preventing attacks, recovering illegal weapons and ensuring the safety of residents.
