Police Arrest Suspected Vehicle Theft Kingpin In Ogun, Recover Stolen Car

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected vehicle theft kingpin, Mosuru Issa, 28, and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The suspect was arrested by officers of the Mowe Division at about 7:30am on Friday, September 11, 2026, during routine patrol and security checks along the Mowe axis of the expressway.

According to the police, officers flagged down a wine-coloured Toyota Camry occupied by three people for a routine security check.

The occupants allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled in different directions after sighting the police, raising suspicion.

The officers pursued the fleeing occupants and succeeded in arresting Issa, while the Toyota Camry was secured and recovered.

Preliminary investigation reportedly established that the vehicle had been stolen on September 7 from where it was parked in Ojo, Lagos State.

The police said the arrest followed proactive patrol and stop-and-search operations aimed at detecting criminal activities and preventing stolen vehicles from being moved through Ogun State.

The command said the incident demonstrated the importance of routine patrols and intelligence-led policing in disrupting criminal networks operating along major highways.

Issa, who is reportedly from Osungboye Street in Agege, Lagos State, remains in police custody as investigators work to establish his alleged involvement in the vehicle theft operation.

The two other occupants who reportedly escaped during the incident are also expected to be traced as investigations continue.

The recovered Toyota Camry has been secured by the police as part of the investigation into its theft and movement from Lagos to Ogun.

The command said it would continue efforts to identify other individuals connected to the suspected vehicle theft network.

Police authorities also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, particularly along major highways and other routes frequently used to move stolen property.

The latest arrest adds to ongoing efforts by the Ogun State Police Command to tackle vehicle theft, robbery and other criminal activities across the state.

The suspect is expected to face further investigation and possible prosecution once the police conclude their inquiries into the alleged offence.
