Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Raping, Impregnating 12-Year-Old in Abuja
Police in Abuja have arrested a man accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl, resulting in her pregnancy.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man over the alleged rape and impregnation of a 12-year-old girl in Abuja.
The suspect was arrested following a report concerning the alleged sexual abuse of the minor, with police commencing an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The command is expected to establish the relationship between the suspect and the victim, as well as the circumstances under which the alleged abuse occurred.
The case comes amid continuing police investigations into reported cases of sexual violence against minors in the Federal Capital Territory. Recent cases include the arrest of a 17-year-old suspect over the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Abuja.
The police said investigations into the latest case were ongoing, while the suspect would be subjected to due process as authorities work to establish the facts surrounding the allegation.
The development has renewed calls for stronger protection of children against sexual abuse and for suspected offenders to face prosecution where evidence supports the allegations.
