Police Arrest Five Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victims in Bauchi
Bauchi police have arrested five suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims after a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving security forces and local vigilantes in Alkaleri LGA.
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and rescued two abducted victims in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on June 2, 2026, when armed men invaded Kwarin Gadali Hamlet in Pali District and abducted a 40-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son from their residence.
Habib said operatives from the Pali Outstation immediately launched an intelligence-led operation after receiving a distress report, visiting the scene and beginning efforts to track down the attackers and rescue the victims.
He explained that a joint security team comprising police officers, soldiers, and local vigilantes acted on credible intelligence and arrested three suspects at Kuka Village in Duguri District on the same day. The suspects were identified as Mainasara Umaru (23), Buba Umaru (20), and Muhammadu Usman (19).
According to him, further investigation led to additional breakthroughs after one of the suspects reportedly confessed knowledge of the crime and the location of the victims. This development prompted security operatives to widen their operation, resulting in the arrest of another suspect, Ahmadu Umaru, in Dalgade.
Habib added that the intelligence gathered during interrogation guided a follow-up operation that led to the successful rescue of the two kidnapped victims on June 3, 2026. He confirmed that the victims were found unhurt and have since been taken to the General Hospital in Alkaleri for medical examination and care.
The police spokesperson stated that all five suspects are currently in custody and that the case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further discreet investigation. He also noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices and recover weapons allegedly used in the operation.
The command reiterated its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing and strengthening collaboration with other security agencies and local communities to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
