Poco Lee’s Friends Rally Behind Dancer After UK Arrest
Friends and colleagues of Nigerian dancer and hypeman Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, have rallied behind him following reports that he is being held on remand in the United Kingdom over an alleged assault offence. They urged the public not to prejudge the case while the legal process continues.
Friends and colleagues of Nigerian dancer and hypeman Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, have expressed support for him following reports of his arrest and detention in the United Kingdom over an alleged assault offence.
Poco Lee’s associates took to social media to describe the dancer as a kind-hearted person and urged members of the public to avoid rushing to judgment while the legal process is ongoing.
Filmmaker TG Omori, who said he had known Poco Lee for years, described him as “the purest soul” he had ever met, expressing sadness over the development.
Omori later clarified that his comments were not intended to defend any alleged sexual offence or oppose justice.
He said knowing Poco Lee personally and expressing disappointment over the allegations should not be interpreted as support for anyone accused of wrongdoing.
Another friend, socialite Rahman Jago, also expressed concern over the situation, saying it was painful to see Poco Lee facing such a serious matter.
Jago said he knew the dancer and believed there was more to the situation than what had been publicly reported.
Instagram influencer Sulaaaaaaa similarly urged people to refrain from spreading unverified claims, describing Poco Lee as a man with a good heart.
PUNCH Online reported that Poco Lee is currently being held on remand in a UK prison and is expected to appear before the Snaresbrook Crown Court in London on Sept. 15 for a plea hearing.
Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the Community of Nigerians in the UK, confirmed the development and said he planned to attend the proceedings to support the Nigerian community.
He stressed that the legal process should be allowed to take its course, noting that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.
Reports of Poco Lee’s alleged detention began circulating online on Aug. 19, although initial reports did not disclose the identity of the alleged complainant or provide full details of the alleged offence.
At the time of the report, PUNCH said an email sent to the court seeking confirmation of the case had not received a response.
Poco Lee is a popular Nigerian dancer and hypeman who has built a large following through his performances and collaborations within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
