Peter Obi Not Godfather to Soludo’s Children, First Lady’s Aide Clarifies
An aide to Anambra First Lady Nonye Soludo has clarified that Peter Obi is not a godfather to any of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s children, correcting a recent claim by the former governor.
The media aide to Anambra State First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, Mr Daniel Ezeigwe, has clarified that former Governor Peter Obi is not a godfather to any of the children of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Obi, who is the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, had said on Friday that he and his wife, Margaret, were godparents to Soludo’s children, while stressing that the political differences between them had not affected their personal relationship.
Obi made the remark at the 22nd Conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Enugu, where he said he and Soludo remained close despite their political differences.
Following the circulation of the video, Ezeigwe said the First Lady’s office received several enquiries seeking clarification on the claim.
He said the claim, as presented, was incorrect, explaining that the godparent relationship between the two families was different from what Obi stated.
According to him, Dr Nonye Soludo is the confirmation godmother to Obi’s daughter, while Mrs Margaret Obi is the baptismal godmother to one of Soludo’s daughters.
He clarified that neither Obi nor Soludo had served as godparent to the other’s children.
Ezeigwe said it was possible that Obi had misspoken while making his remarks, but added that the widespread circulation of the video made it necessary to clarify the matter.
He also stressed that the relationship between the two families remained cordial and urged the public and media to take note of the clarification and disregard any impression that Obi was godfather to any of Soludo’s children.
