The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its entire State Working Committee in Kano State and appointed its North-West Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state.

The dissolution took effect immediately, according to a letter dated September 24 and signed by the PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar M. Bature.

The letter, addressed to the Kano State chairman, stated that the decision followed consultations by the party’s national leadership.

It clarified that the dissolution affected only the State Working Committee chaired by Dr Bello Gambo Bichi, while the party’s ward and local government executives remained in place.

The North-West Caretaker Committee will oversee the Kano chapter pending the emergence of a new state executive.

Reacting to the development, Bichi said he accepted his removal as a sacrifice for the unity and strengthening of the party in Kano.

He said the dissolution formed part of an ongoing reconciliation process within the party, adding that former governorship candidate, Muhammad Bello Dalhatu, had also stepped aside to allow Muhammad Sani Abacha to become the party’s candidate.

Bichi said the dissolution of the state executive was one of the conditions attached to the reconciliation process, which he accepted in the interest of the party.

The development follows the PDP’s replacement of Dalhatu with Abacha as its Kano governorship candidate after Dalhatu withdrew from the race. The party subsequently conducted an affirmation and replacement primary in which Abacha emerged as its candidate for the 2027 election.

Bichi said the changes were aimed at resolving internal disagreements and presenting a more united platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
