PCC Inauguration: APC Banks on Tinubu’s Record for Re-election
APC leaders say Tinubu’s reforms and infrastructure projects will anchor the party’s campaign as it prepares for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s record and ongoing reforms as it begins preparations to secure his re-election in 2027.
The party made its position known on Wednesday during the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, bringing together APC leaders, government officials and politicians from other parties.
Tinubu urged members of the council to work together and communicate the administration’s policies and achievements to Nigerians, while acknowledging the need to maintain focus on governance.
He said he would not accompany the campaign team to every rally because of his responsibilities as president, but promised to make time to address Nigerians directly.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda urged campaign officials to highlight projects and reforms in infrastructure, power, gas, railways, ports, agriculture and digital connectivity.
He said the campaign must explain how government investments were expected to improve productivity, create jobs and support economic growth. Yilwatda also advised members to acknowledge the administration’s challenges while presenting its achievements and future plans.
The campaign council has drawn support from several politicians outside the APC. Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party pledged support for Tinubu’s re-election.
Soludo described the gathering as evidence of broad political cooperation, while Wike promised to mobilise support in Rivers State and the FCT. Adeleke also called for more time for Tinubu’s reforms to produce results.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas urged campaigners to defend the administration’s policies and present their arguments with evidence.
However, opposition figures criticised the size and composition of the council. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar argued that political endorsements would not erase economic hardship, while the campaign organisation of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde described the council as a “coalition of failed politicians”.
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari is the council’s Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serves as secretary.
The APC plans to begin its nationwide campaign activities with a rally in Kaduna on October 24, as political parties intensify preparations for the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
