Pastor Jerry Eze’s Church Refunds Woman’s N1.64m Mistaken Transfer

A woman, Sandra Okpara, has recovered ₦1,640,200 she mistakenly transferred into an account linked to Pastor Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International.

Okpara, a single mother of two, had appealed publicly for help after discovering that she had mistakenly sent the money to the church while attempting to make a different bank transfer.

She said the money was not hers and was intended for other people who were expecting payment from her.

According to Okpara, she had earlier transferred ₦1,000 as an offering before later attempting to send more than ₦1.6 million to a Zenith Bank account.

She said she accidentally selected the wrong account and only realised the mistake after checking the transfer receipt.

After discovering the error, Okpara said she approached her bank and later contacted Moniepoint in an effort to recover the funds. She said she was informed that a court order would be required to reverse the transaction.

Unable to resolve the matter through the banks, she eventually made a video appeal on social media, asking anyone connected to Streams of Joy International to help trace the money.

The video quickly attracted attention online, prompting the church to respond.

Streams of Joy International said it contacted Okpara after becoming aware of the appeal and subsequently investigated the transaction.

The church confirmed that the money had been refunded after verifying the circumstances surrounding the transfer.

The church also stated that it had not received any call, email, direct message or formal complaint from Okpara before her video was published.

It urged anyone who makes an erroneous transfer to contact its official communication channels directly so that such cases can be investigated and resolved.

Okpara later confirmed that she had received the full amount.

She said a member of the church’s staff contacted her early Saturday morning and the money was returned at about 6:22am.

The woman also clarified that her public appeal was not intended to damage Pastor Jerry Eze’s reputation or that of the church.

She expressed gratitude that the issue was resolved after the video attracted attention and helped connect her with the church.

The incident has generated discussion online about mistaken bank transfers and the importance of promptly contacting recipients and financial institutions when such errors occur.

For Okpara, the matter ended with the recovery of the ₦1.64 million she feared she might lose after the erroneous transaction.
