Oyo Varsity Accreditation: Parents Seek Help From FG

Parents of students of an Oyo State university have appealed to the Federal Government to intervene in the institution’s accreditation challenges, expressing concern over the possible impact on their children’s education and future careers.

The parents urged relevant authorities to urgently address the issues surrounding the accreditation of academic programmes at the institution and prevent students from suffering the consequences of administrative or regulatory disagreements.

They said many families had invested significant financial resources in their children’s education and were worried that prolonged accreditation problems could disrupt their academic progress.

According to the parents, students should not be made to bear the consequences of challenges beyond their control, particularly after spending several years pursuing their chosen programmes.

They therefore called on the Federal Government, through the appropriate regulatory authorities, to facilitate a resolution that would safeguard the interests of affected students.

The parents also appealed to the university management and other stakeholders to prioritise dialogue and ensure that students receive clear information about the status of their programmes.

They expressed concern that uncertainty over accreditation could create anxiety among students and parents while also affecting graduates seeking employment, professional registration or further studies.

The parents urged authorities to provide a clear roadmap for resolving the matter, including information on the programmes affected, steps being taken to secure accreditation and the expected timeline for completion.

They maintained that students who enrolled in good faith should not be left uncertain about the validity of their qualifications.

The appeal comes amid growing concerns among students and parents over accreditation issues at higher institutions, with professional and regulatory bodies periodically reviewing academic programmes to ensure they meet prescribed standards.
