Oyo Govt Announces Arrest of Five Suspected Terrorists After Security Base Attack

The Oyo State Government has announced the arrest of five suspected terrorists following an attack on a security base along the Igbeti–Igboho Road in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.

The attackers reportedly stormed the Operation Burst base in the early hours of Sunday and fled before security reinforcements arrived.

The incident occurred between about 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. at the security facility located along the route linking communities in Olorunsogo and Oorelope Local Government Areas.

The attackers reportedly set fire to part of the security base and an abandoned vehicle before fleeing the area with some equipment, including a generator and motorcycle.

No death was recorded during the attack, although the facility and other property were damaged.

Following the incident, security agencies launched efforts to track down the attackers and prevent them from regrouping or carrying out further attacks in the area.

The Oyo State Government subsequently announced that five suspected terrorists had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The arrests are expected to assist investigators in determining the identities of the attackers, their motives and whether they were linked to other criminal activities in the state.

Operation Burst is a joint security initiative involving military and other security personnel established to strengthen security operations and combat criminal activities across Oyo State.

The latest incident has renewed concerns about the security of communities and major roads in Oke-Ogun, particularly areas bordering forest reserves that have previously been associated with criminal activity.

Security agencies have continued to intensify surveillance and patrols in the area following the attack.

The state government is expected to work with security agencies to ensure that those arrested are properly investigated and prosecuted if found culpable.

Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information that could help prevent further attacks.

The incident comes amid broader security concerns across parts of the country, with authorities continuing efforts to disrupt terrorist, kidnapping and other criminal networks.
