Oyo APC Guber Candidate Yet to Emerge — Tinubu Ex-Minister, Adelabu Insists
Former Minister Adebayo Adelabu says the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State has not been officially decided, urging members to await the party’s national leadership’s final announcement.
Former Minister of Power and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has insisted that the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election is yet to be officially announced.
Adelabu made the clarification in a statement on Monday, urging party members and supporters to remain calm and await the official position of the party’s national leadership on the outcome of the primaries.
He cautioned against accepting reports suggesting that a consensus candidate had already been adopted for the governorship race in Oyo State.
The development comes amid reports that Senator Sarafadeen Alli had emerged as the consensus candidate following the APC primaries, while party stakeholders in the state also reportedly backed his emergence after consultations in Lagos.
However, Adelabu stressed that no individual or group at the state level has the authority to officially announce the party’s governorship candidate.
He warned that circulating names and lists of candidates on social media or through unofficial channels could create confusion within the party and mislead supporters.
According to him, only the national leadership of the APC has the constitutional authority to formally declare the outcome of the primaries and confirm candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Adelabu further urged party members to uphold internal democracy, fairness and discipline while awaiting official communication from the party hierarchy.
He also dismissed what he described as premature victory claims, stating that such narratives could undermine ongoing consultations and unity within the party structure in Oyo State.
The APC in Oyo State has been witnessing internal discussions following its governorship primaries, which featured several aspirants competing for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
Party stakeholders are expected to await final ratification from the national leadership before the official list of candidates is published.
