Oyo Acting Gov Sympathises With Traders Over Market Fire, Pledges Support

The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Abdulraheem Lawal, has expressed sympathy to traders and residents affected by the recent fire outbreak at Oranyan Market in Ibadan.

Lawal described the incident as a tragic development that had disrupted the livelihoods of traders and created significant hardship for affected families.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Monday, the acting governor assured victims of the state government’s support.

He said the government understood the devastating impact of the fire on traders whose businesses and livelihoods had been affected.

According to Lawal, the government would stand with the victims as they begin the process of recovering from the incident.

He disclosed that emergency response teams had been deployed to assess the extent of damage caused by the fire.

The acting governor said the assessment would help the government determine the immediate needs of the affected traders and guide the deployment of relief measures.

He also stated that the state government was putting immediate support measures in place to assist those who suffered losses in the incident.

Lawal expressed concern over the disruption caused to commercial activities at the market, noting that many families depend directly and indirectly on businesses operating there.

He assured traders and residents that the government would continue to monitor the situation and work towards restoring normal activities at the market.

The acting governor further pledged that efforts would be made to restore the affected parts of Oranyan Market and help traders return to business as soon as possible.

Beyond immediate relief, Lawal said the government was committed to implementing preventive measures aimed at reducing the risk of similar incidents in the future.

He emphasised the importance of strengthening safety measures and emergency preparedness in markets across the state.

The government is expected to review the findings from the assessment teams and determine further steps required to support the affected traders.

Lawal urged residents and traders to remain calm and assured them of the state government’s commitment to their welfare.

He also extended his condolences to families and individuals who suffered losses in the fire, reiterating that the government would not abandon those affected during the recovery process.
