OsunDecides2026: Jubilation as Adeleke Wins Polling Unit with 421 Votes

There was jubilation in Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday after Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Accord Party governorship candidate, secured victory at his polling unit in the ongoing governorship election.

Adeleke polled 421 votes at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, Ede North LGA, emerging the clear winner at the unit.

His supporters celebrated after the result was announced, with the outcome adding to the early developments from polling units across the state as voting moved into the sorting and collation stages.

The governor had earlier expressed confidence in securing victory in the election after casting his ballot at Sagba Abogunde Ward 02, Unit 009, in Ede North.

Speaking after voting, Adeleke maintained that the process should reflect the wishes of Osun voters and called for transparent collation of results from polling units through wards and local government areas.

His main challenger, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, also expressed optimism about winning the election after voting at Ward 09, Unit 011, in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.

The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, similarly remained in contention but raised concerns over alleged difficulties faced by some of his party agents during the election.

Salaam alleged that ADC agents were not recognised in several locations across the state, raising concerns about the participation of party representatives in the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission continued uploading polling unit results to its Result Viewing Portal, IReV, as collation progressed.

As of 5:24 p.m. on Saturday, 1,386 out of 3,763 expected polling unit results had been uploaded to the portal.

The electronic publication of results is expected to provide voters, political parties, observers and other stakeholders with access to polling unit result sheets as the collation process continues.

The election has witnessed a mixture of voter enthusiasm, technical challenges involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and isolated reports of disruptions in some areas.

With collation continuing across the state’s 30 local government areas, attention remains focused on the emerging figures and whether Adeleke’s early momentum at his polling unit will translate into an overall victory.
