Osun Killings: Gov Adeleke Orders Security Agencies to Arrest Perpetrators

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to immediately arrest perpetrators of recent killings across the state and restore normalcy in all affected areas.

The directive followed renewed violence in Osun, with about five people reportedly killed between August 24 and September 15 in incidents linked to cult disputes and motor park struggles.

Adeleke’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Samuel Ojo, disclosed the development on Wednesday, saying the governor had convened an emergency security meeting to address the violence.

The meeting was attended by heads of major security agencies, including the police, Department of State Services, Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Immigration and Correctional Service.

Ojo said the meeting focused on stopping the killings immediately and restoring the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

He said the service commanders assured the governor that security agencies would work together to prevent further loss of lives and bring those responsible for the violence to justice.

The development followed the killing of Accord Party chieftain Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife on Sunday.

Oyeyemi was reportedly shot during a dispute connected to control of a motor park in the Mayfair area of the town. His death reportedly triggered further tension and clashes in parts of Ile-Ife.

Adeleke subsequently directed the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to arrest all those involved in the killing and ordered rival groups to vacate motor parks and garages across the state.

The governor also announced plans to reintroduce the Park Management System to regulate motor parks.

Meanwhile, Ojo rejected allegations that the Adeleke administration was shielding individuals suspected of involvement in the violence.

He said the government had instructed the police and DSS to investigate the killings, identify those responsible and ensure that the law takes its course.

The security adviser said the government would not protect anyone found culpable, regardless of their political connections.

He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could assist investigations and prevent further violence.

The governor’s latest directive comes amid concerns over security in Osun as authorities seek to contain the violence.
