Osun Election: Sowore Attacks Davido Over Meeting With Wike

Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his recent meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Davido and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, visited Wike in Abuja on Thursday, days after the governor secured re-election in the Osun State governorship election.

During the visit, Davido was seen engaging Wike in a light-hearted exchange about the outcome of the election, repeatedly claiming that he had “won” and “beaten” Wike’s side.

The interaction attracted attention on social media, particularly because of the political divisions surrounding the Osun election and the positions previously taken by Wike.

Reacting to the meeting, Sowore described Davido and other political actors involved in the development as “political hustlers.”

The activist questioned why Davido would appear to be showing deference to Wike despite the violence and deaths recorded around the election period.

In a post on his X account, Sowore accused the political actors of putting their interests ahead of the concerns of victims of electoral violence.

He wrote that Davido was “genuflecting before Nyesom Wike” barely a week after what he described as “agreement is agreement” election politics in Osun.

Sowore further alleged that the election was characterised by deadly violence and the loss of several lives.

He argued that despite the public disagreements, insults and political confrontations witnessed during the election period, politicians could still find common ground when their interests aligned.

The activist described the actors as “dissemblers,” “gerrymanderers,” “carpetbaggers” and “political hustlers,” accusing them of concealing their actual interests from the public.

The Osun governorship election generated significant political tension, with supporters of different political parties engaging in intense campaigns before the poll.

There were also reports of deaths involving supporters of the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party before and during the election.

Governor Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, eventually secured re-election, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Following his victory, Adeleke embarked on meetings with prominent political figures in Abuja, including President Bola Tinubu and Wike.

The meeting between Adeleke and Wike came amid heightened political discussions over the outcome of the Osun election and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
