Osun Election, Sign of What Will Happen in 2027 — Oyo ADP Guber Candidate

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Kunle Olatunji, has described the outcome of the Osun governorship election as a signal of what could happen in the 2027 general elections.

Olatunji made the remark in a statement issued on Sunday while reacting to the victory of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the closely contested election.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday morning after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress.

Reacting to the result, Olatunji said the election demonstrated that political influence, money and intimidation could not permanently suppress the will of voters.

He described Adeleke’s victory as a morale booster for emerging political leaders and democrats ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, the outcome should serve as a wake-up call to political office holders that Nigerians possess the constitutional power to determine who governs them through their votes.

Olatunji congratulated Adeleke and said the Osun election had highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong connection with voters and fulfilling electoral promises.

“The Osun election is a morale booster for many emerging political leaders and genuine democrats who believe that strong connection with the electorate, fulfilment of electoral promises, empathy, commitment to quality leadership, strategic positioning and credible engagement with the people remain critical to electoral success,” he said.

He further argued that Nigerian voters were increasingly recognising the importance of their participation in the democratic process and the power of their ballots.

Olatunji said the development could have wider implications for the 2027 general elections, as voters may become more determined to exercise their constitutional rights and demand accountability from political leaders.

“It is becoming increasingly evident that Nigerian voters are beginning to appreciate the power of their votes and the importance of participating actively in the democratic process,” he said.

He added that the message from Osun was clear, stressing that collective voter decisions could overcome political and financial influence.

“The people have the power, and when they collectively decide, no amount of money, influence or political might can permanently suppress their will,” Olatunji said.

The ADP candidate’s comments come amid preparations for the 2027 elections, with political parties and aspirants closely assessing the lessons from the Osun governorship poll.
