Osun Election: ‘I Will Not Reach Out to APC’s Oyebamiji’ — Gov Adeleke Gives Reasons

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said he will not reach out to his main challenger in the recently concluded governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, insisting that the former candidate should be the one to congratulate him first.

Adeleke made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner of the August 15 governorship election.

The governor said he expected Oyebamiji to act in what he described as a civilised manner by contacting him to acknowledge the election outcome.

“I am not the one who should reach out to him now because I am the one who won the election and I have been declared the winner,” Adeleke said.

“If he wants to be civilised, he is the one who should call me and say congratulations,” he added.

Despite his position, Adeleke extended an invitation to Oyebamiji to work with his administration and contribute ideas that could improve the state.

“But at this moment, I am taking this opportunity on national television to extend my hand of fellowship and invite him to come forward and discuss with me,” the governor said.

He added that any proposal capable of benefiting Osun would receive consideration, stressing that the interests of the state remained his priority.

“If you have any ideas, please share them and I will consider them. If the idea is beneficial, I will be eager to implement it; the priority is Osun State,” he said.

Adeleke also disclosed plans to address the political divisions that emerged during the election campaign.

According to him, his administration would establish a reconciliation committee to bring together political opponents and other stakeholders across the state.

“I will set up a reconciliation committee aimed at uniting the people of Osun,” he said.

The governor said members of the opposition would be invited to present their suggestions and contribute to efforts aimed at advancing the state.

“I will extend invitations to our opponents; if you have any suggestions, please present them so that we can collaborate and enhance Osun’s greatness,” Adeleke said.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The result earned the Accord Party candidate a second term in office.
