Osun Election: ‘I Had No Electoral Deal’ — Adeleke Denies Alliance With ADC
Governor Adeleke denies any electoral alliance with ADC, saying the party was not part of his coalition before or during Osun election.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied having any electoral agreement or political alliance with the African Democratic Congress, ADC, before, during or after the state’s recent governorship election.
Adeleke made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday following claims that the ADC worked with his political camp to prevent the All Progressives Congress, APC, from winning the election.
The ADC, through its spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, had reportedly claimed that the party worked with Adeleke’s Accord Party as part of efforts to defeat the APC at the polls.
However, Adeleke rejected the claim, saying the ADC was not part of the political coalition that supported his campaign.
The governor attributed his re-election to what he described as divine intervention and the overwhelming support of the people of Osun State.
“The credit for our victory goes to God Almighty and the good people of Osun State for their overwhelming support and re-election,” Adeleke said.
He specifically clarified that the ADC did not participate in the coalition that mobilised support for his campaign ahead of the election.
“For the sake of history, it is important to clarify that the ADC was never part of the rainbow coalition that canvassed, mobilised, and supported our campaign in the battle leading to last Saturday’s election,” he stated.
Adeleke, however, expressed appreciation to the political partners and stakeholders who supported his campaign, saying their efforts contributed significantly to his victory.
“I commend all our political partners who sacrificed, worked tirelessly, and went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. Their commitment and support were instrumental to our success,” he said.
The governor also used the opportunity to shift attention from the election to governance, declaring that he remained the governor of all residents of Osun State regardless of their political affiliation, religion or ethnic background.
“Now that the election is over, I remain the Governor of all Osun people, irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or tribe. My commitment is to unite our people and continue working for the progress and prosperity of Osun State,” Adeleke added.
His statement is expected to further clarify the political relationships surrounding the election, following competing claims about alliances and strategies adopted by opposition parties during the campaign.
