Osun Election: Davido Urges INEC to Use Front Camera on BVAS

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has urged officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the front camera on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) when the device’s other camera is not functioning.

Davido made the appeal in a post on his X handle on Saturday as voting continued in the Osun State governorship election.

The singer advised voters and electoral officials experiencing camera-related difficulties to explore the alternative camera on the accreditation device where available.

“If your BVAS camera is not working, please tell the officials to use front camera. It is very active and fast!” Davido stated.

His comment came amid reports of technical challenges involving BVAS devices at some polling units across the state.

The development has raised concerns among some voters who have experienced difficulties completing the biometric accreditation process required before casting their ballots.

Earlier, a 55-year-old voter, Sharafa Lasisi, appealed to INEC after reportedly experiencing difficulty completing facial verification because of network-related problems at his polling unit.

Lasisi said he had repeatedly attempted the facial verification process but was unable to complete the procedure.

The BVAS is one of INEC’s key technological tools for voter accreditation and election administration. The device is designed to authenticate voters through biometric information, including facial recognition and fingerprint verification.

Davido has in recent days remained vocal about developments surrounding the Osun governorship election, using his social media platforms to comment on the electoral process and call for greater attention to the conduct of the poll.

The singer had also urged local and international organisations to closely monitor the election.

His latest intervention comes as voters across Osun State participate in the election to choose the governor who will lead the state for the next four years.

INEC has repeatedly assured stakeholders that it is prepared to conduct a credible, transparent and inclusive election.

However, reports of technical difficulties at individual polling units have continued to generate concerns among voters and observers.

The commission is expected to address technical challenges promptly to minimise delays and ensure that eligible voters are not prevented from exercising their civic rights because of equipment or connectivity problems.

As voting continues, stakeholders are also urging electoral officials to remain professional and provide practical solutions where accreditation devices encounter difficulties.
