Oluremi Tinubu Donates N819m to 1,638 Widows of Fallen Officers

The Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N819 million to 1,638 widows of fallen military and police personnel to support them in starting or expanding businesses.

Tinubu announced the intervention on Thursday at the second edition of the RHI Social Investment Programme for Widows of Fallen Heroes in Abuja.

She described the beneficiaries as women of extraordinary courage and resilience, rather than victims of loss, while stressing the importance of supporting the families of personnel who died in the line of duty.

Under the intervention, N657.5 million will be provided to 1,315 widows of fallen military personnel, while N161.5 million will go to 323 widows of deceased police officers.

Each beneficiary is receiving N500,000 to establish a new business or strengthen an existing venture.

Tinubu said the funds were already being transferred to the beneficiaries’ accounts through Zenith Bank, describing the presentation at the event as symbolic.

She said the initiative was intended to honour the sacrifices of military and police personnel while providing practical economic support for their families.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the First Lady acknowledged the difficulties faced by military spouses, particularly the uncertainty and risks associated with their husbands’ service to the nation.

She commended the widows for standing by their husbands, maintaining their families and enduring the loss of their loved ones in the line of duty.

Tinubu urged them to use the financial support productively and expressed hope that the businesses established or expanded through the intervention would improve their families’ welfare.

The programme covers families of military and police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty from 2023 to date.

The intervention is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s broader social investment efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and families affected by the sacrifices of security personnel.

The initiative received commendation from the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, who attended the presentation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Aneke described continued support for the families of fallen personnel as an important demonstration of the nation’s appreciation for their sacrifices.

He also said such assistance reflected the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of families left behind by officers who died serving the country.

The event was attended by senior military and security officials, government representatives and other stakeholders.
