The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has urged Nigerian youths to shun bitterness and political violence as the 2027 general elections approach.

Ladoja gave the advice on Wednesday while receiving students from the Leadership Centre, University of Abuja, at his palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The monarch, speaking through the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, urged youths, particularly students, to play constructive roles in nation-building and avoid activities that could undermine the electoral process.

He advised them to reject attempts by politicians to recruit them as political thugs or involve them in electoral malpractice.

“I want to advise you to refuse to be used as political thugs or election riggers so that you will be able to fulfil your destiny as future leaders of our dear country, Nigeria,” he said.

Ladoja also urged youths to avoid bitterness and violence as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Prof. Abdulhamid Suleiman, said the students visited the palace to receive royal blessings and engage with youths on leadership and nation-building.

Suleiman said the visit would also provide the students with greater knowledge of Ibadanland and its historical significance as the former capital of the Western Region and a major centre of political and developmental activities.

The Olubadan further encouraged the students to visit notable sites in Ibadan, including the University of Ibadan, Cocoa House and Bowers Tower.
