Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has announced a N50 million reward for Edo Queens and their officials following their triumph in the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League.

Okpebholo announced the reward on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Government House in Benin, where the team presented the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League and 2026 WAFU-B titles.

Edo Queens defeated Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties after the final ended 2-2 in regulation time.

The governor commended the players for their resilience and determination throughout the competition, while also praising the coaching crew and other officials for their contributions.

He said he was particularly impressed by the goalkeeper’s composure during the penalty shootout, adding that he was confident the team would prevail after observing her approach.

“For me, this trophy matters to Edo people and the country,” Okpebholo said before announcing the N50 million reward.

Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, also praised the team, saying winning the NWFL and WAFU-B titles in the same season was a significant achievement.

The WAFU-B triumph secured Edo Queens a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
