Ogun Teacher Admits Drugging Student, Spending Ransom On Betting
A teacher in Ogun State has reportedly been arrested for allegedly drugging and abducting a WASSCE candidate, demanding ransom from the family, and using part of the proceeds for personal expenses, with the victim later rescued and investigations ongoing.
A teacher in Ogun State has reportedly confessed to drugging a candidate preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) before abducting the student and demanding ransom from the family.
According to police authorities, the suspect admitted during interrogation that part of the ransom money collected was used for sports betting and other personal expenses. The incident came to light after the student was declared missing, prompting an investigation by security operatives.
Police said the victim was eventually rescued following coordinated efforts by investigators, while the suspect was taken into custody for questioning. Authorities added that evidence gathered during the investigation linked the teacher directly to the abduction plot.
The case has generated concern among residents and education stakeholders, particularly because the suspect was someone entrusted with the student’s welfare and academic preparation.
Officials say further investigations are ongoing, while the suspect is expected to face prosecution over allegations including kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and related offences.
