Ogun SUBEB Board Member Resigns, Eyes Iyabo Obasanjo Campaign Role

A Permanent Member of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Donaldson Abiodun Ajayi, has resigned from his position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ajayi tendered his resignation in a letter dated August 31, 2026, formally ending his tenure on the same date.

In the letter, he cited “emerging political responsibilities” as the reason for leaving the government appointment.

Ajayi said he did not want to remain in a public position while attempting to balance competing responsibilities and political commitments.

He, however, stated that his decision was not motivated by dissatisfaction with Governor Dapo Abiodun, his administration or the activities of SUBEB.

He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve the state and reaffirmed his commitment to its peace, unity, progress and development.

The resignation has generated speculation that Ajayi could realign politically and take up a role in the 2027 campaign of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello.

Reports indicate that his potential involvement could strengthen the campaign structure around Obasanjo-Bello, who is seeking political relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, Ajayi did not announce any defection from the All Progressives Congress in his resignation letter, and his reported movement into Obasanjo-Bello’s campaign has not been formally confirmed.

The development comes as political parties and aspirants in Ogun State intensify preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
