Ogun CP Summons Four Officers Over Viral Assault Video
Ogun Police apprehend four officers after a viral video showed them attempting to arrest a man over his camouflage shorts in Ijagba.
The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended four officers involved in a viral video showing an attempted arrest of a man allegedly for wearing camouflage shorts in Ijagba community.
The development followed public outcry after footage circulated on social media showing the officers attempting to force the man into a waiting commercial minibus.
In the video, the man was seen crying out for help as the officers tried to handcuff him. Residents subsequently gathered at the scene and challenged the officers, demanding an explanation for the attempted arrest.
The confrontation continued for several minutes before the officers left the area, while residents celebrated their departure.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, October 16, 2026, in Ijagba, Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed on Sunday that the officers involved had been apprehended for further action.
“We have apprehended the officers involved for onward action,” Babaseyi said, adding that further information would be communicated as it became available.
The command has not yet publicly provided a detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the incident or clarified the legal grounds on which the officers sought to arrest the man.
The video has renewed public attention on police conduct, the handling of arrests and the importance of officers observing due process when dealing with members of the public.
Although the circumstances remain under investigation, the incident has also raised questions about how allegations of unlawful arrest and excessive use of force are addressed within the police service.
The police command is expected to provide further details as its investigation progresses.
The latest development comes amid continuing scrutiny of police conduct in Ogun State following other incidents involving confrontations between officers and members of the public.
The outcome of the investigation is expected to clarify the officers’ actions and determine whether disciplinary measures or other legal steps will follow.
