Odumeje Says He Does Not Collect Tithes, Preach About Them in His Church

Popular Nigerian cleric Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Prophet Odumeje, has said he does not collect tithes from members of his church, explaining that his primary mission is to convince people of the reality of Jesus Christ.

The Onitsha-based preacher made the remarks while addressing his congregation, stating that financial gain was not the reason he became a pastor.

Odumeje said he was not interested in collecting tithes from worshippers and maintained that his ministry was driven by a desire to demonstrate the existence and power of God.

“Look at a young fresh man like me. I’ll come here and be deceiving people? I no dey do church for money. Nobody pays me tithe. I am doing church to prove to you that Christ is real. That is my mission,” he said.

The cleric added that he intended to complete his religious mission and leave the ministry, drawing a comparison with the late televangelist Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as TB Joshua.

His comments have generated reactions on social media, with some users praising his position on church finances, while others questioned how a church could sustain its operations without collecting tithes.

Odumeje, who leads the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry in Onitsha, Anambra State, is known for his unconventional preaching style and public statements on religious and social issues.

His remarks have renewed online discussions about the collection of tithes in churches and the financial responsibilities of religious institutions.
