Oborevwori Orders Julius Berger to Fix Collapsed East-West Road Section
Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed Julius Berger to immediately undertake remedial work on a collapsed section of the East-West Road at Agbarho following heavy rainfall and erosion.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to immediately commence remedial work on the collapsed section of the East-West Road at Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Asaba on Thursday.
Aniagwu said the intervention was prompted by the hardship being experienced by motorists, residents, businesses and other road users following the failure of the federal highway.
He said although the East-West Road was owned by the Federal Government, Oborevwori was concerned about the impact of the damaged section on Deltans and other Nigerians using the major corridor.
According to him, the governor consequently directed Julius Berger to intervene and undertake immediate remedial work on the affected portion.
Aniagwu said the road section was damaged after heavy rainfall triggered strong erosion, disrupting movement along the route.
He described the East-West Road as a major economic corridor in the Niger Delta, connecting communities and facilitating the movement of people, agricultural produce, goods and services.
The commissioner said the disruption could have significant consequences for commuters, transport operators, traders and businesses that depend on the route for their activities.
He said the state government’s intervention reflected its approach of responding to urgent infrastructure challenges based on the needs of residents rather than bureaucratic boundaries.
Aniagwu assured road users that the remedial work would help restore smoother traffic movement and reduce the hardship caused by the collapsed section.
He also urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching the affected area while the repairs were being carried out.
The commissioner said the Delta Government would continue to collaborate with relevant Federal Government agencies and private-sector partners to address critical infrastructure challenges affecting residents and economic activities across the state.
