Obi, Makinde Call For Unity To Build A Better Nigeria
Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde have called for political unity ahead of the 2027 election, saying Nigerians must work together regardless of who wins to rescue the country from poverty, hunger and insecurity.
Presidential candidates Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde have called for unity among political leaders and Nigerians, saying collective effort is needed to build a better country.
Obi made the call on Monday while attending the commissioning of Makinde’s 2027 presidential campaign office in Abuja.
The former Anambra State governor, who is contesting under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, said Makinde was qualified to contest the presidency and that whoever emerges victorious in a free, fair and credible election should receive the support of all Nigerians.
Obi said Nigerians could no longer continue with the current situation of widespread poverty, hunger and insecurity.
He said the objective should be to work together after the election to “save this country from collapse”.
Obi also called for a change in the country’s political culture, saying political disagreements should focus on finding solutions to poverty, hunger and other challenges facing Nigerians.
He said the goal should be to create a Nigeria where “a child of nobody can be somebody without knowing anybody”.
Obi assured that he and his supporters would remain united in efforts to rescue the country, regardless of the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
Makinde, the Oyo State governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, is among those expected to contest the 2027 presidential election.
