Obi Condemns Killing of Kano Political Commentator

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has condemned the killing of Kano-based social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu and called for a thorough investigation into his death.

Dan Shagamu was reportedly found dead in a pool of blood inside his residence in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

Obi described the killing as disturbing, stressing the need for authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

The killing has sparked condemnation from political figures and rights groups, with concerns raised over the safety of political commentators and the protection of freedom of expression ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing as investigations continue.

Obi urged the authorities to ensure that the investigation is transparent and that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The incident comes amid heightened political activity and concerns over intimidation, violence and threats against opposition voices as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
