NSCDC Foils Attempted Child Trafficking in Kano, Arrests Two Suspects
NSCDC operatives in Kano foil an alleged child-trafficking attempt and arrest two suspects during an intelligence-led operation.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has foiled an alleged attempt to traffic children in Kano State, arresting two suspects in connection with the operation.
The development is part of intensified efforts by security agencies to tackle child trafficking and other crimes involving vulnerable persons across the country.
The NSCDC has continued to strengthen intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks involved in the movement and exploitation of children.
The Corps has also recently uncovered a wider child-trafficking network operating across several states, rescuing 15 minors who were allegedly taken from vulnerable families and sold to buyers for about N2 million each.
In that operation, investigators said a suspect allegedly posed as an official of a civil society organisation and used promises of free education under a purported “Back to School Project” to convince parents to hand over their children.
The children were reportedly taken from communities in Nasarawa State before being moved to different parts of the country. Fifteen of the 16 children involved were subsequently rescued during coordinated operations across Anambra, Imo, Enugu and other locations.
Three suspected buyers were arrested in connection with that case, while efforts continued to locate the remaining child and apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate.
The latest Kano operation underscores the NSCDC’s broader focus on preventing trafficking before victims are moved out of their communities.
The Corps has maintained that intelligence gathering, surveillance and cooperation with other security agencies are essential to disrupting trafficking networks and protecting vulnerable children.
Authorities have continued to urge parents and guardians to exercise caution when approached by individuals or organisations offering to take children away for education, employment or other opportunities.
The NSCDC has also warned that individuals involved in trafficking and the exploitation of children will face prosecution after investigations are completed.
The two suspects arrested in Kano are expected to assist investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the attempted trafficking and whether other individuals are connected to the operation.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society while working with relevant agencies to dismantle trafficking networks across the country.
