NRS Unveils New Tagline, Puts Taxpayers at the Centre of Revenue Administration

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has introduced a new corporate tagline, “Inspiring Trust, Sustaining Growth”, as part of efforts to strengthen public confidence, improve revenue administration and support business expansion across the country.

The unveiling in Abuja marks another milestone in the agency’s transition from the former Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to a broader revenue administration institution responsible for managing both tax and non-tax revenue.

The service said the new identity reflected its commitment to building trust with taxpayers, simplifying compliance procedures, strengthening institutional capacity and supporting Nigeria’s ambition of developing a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief of Staff to the NRS Executive Chairman, Tayo Koleosho, said public confidence was essential to an effective revenue administration system.

He explained that taxpayers needed assurance that their information would be protected, tax assessments would be fair and interactions with revenue officials would be transparent and professional.

Koleosho stressed that the process of building trust must begin within the organisation, with staff demonstrating integrity, accountability and professionalism in their dealings with taxpayers.

He also said the service intended to support business growth rather than discourage enterprise through excessive tax burdens, noting that an expanding private sector would ultimately strengthen the country's revenue base.

According to him, improvements in tax administration, productivity and economic activity would enable the government to increase revenue without relying primarily on higher tax rates.

He expressed confidence that the service would meet the Federal Government’s revenue target for 2026, citing digitalisation and more efficient collection processes as important contributors.

Among the initiatives highlighted were electronic invoicing and the Tax 360 payment system, which are designed to simplify compliance and reduce disruptions to business operations.

The Group Director of Transformation and Strategy at the NRS, Alfred Okoh, said the new tagline reflected the agency’s expanded responsibilities under its new institutional framework.

He explained that the previous FIRS slogan, “It pays to pay your tax”, focused primarily on tax collection, while the new message represented a broader mandate covering revenue administration beyond taxation.

Okoh said the tagline emerged from an internal competition launched on August 10, which attracted 3,308 submissions from employees across the agency’s directorates, the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The entries underwent a multi-stage screening process, with submissions assessed on strategic relevance, originality, clarity, memorability and their ability to communicate the institution’s mission.

The selection process eventually produced seven finalists, before management considered the final four entries.

The agency awarded ₦5.75 million in prize money to four winners of the competition, with the overall winner receiving ₦2.5 million.

Okoh noted that the tagline would only achieve its purpose if taxpayers experienced tangible improvements in their dealings with the service.

He identified simpler procedures, effective use of technology and data, stronger collaboration among employees and better service delivery as essential elements of the transformation.

The Director of Change Management, Olanike Adegoke, said the competition demonstrated the importance of employee participation in shaping the institution’s identity.

She maintained that the transformation agenda required shared responsibility across the organisation rather than being driven solely by senior management.

The unveiling comes as the Federal Government pursues reforms aimed at expanding domestic revenue generation and improving the efficiency of public finance administration.

The NRS said its new corporate identity would guide its engagement with taxpayers and reinforce its commitment to transparency, accountability and sustainable economic growth.
