North Korea Denies Links to $6.3bn Binance Heist, Calls US Claim ‘Grave Political Provocation’
Pyongyang has rejected allegations linking it to the reported Binance cyberattack, describing Washington’s accusation as politically motivated.
North Korea has denied allegations that it was responsible for the reported $6.3 billion cyberattack on cryptocurrency exchange Binance, describing the United States’ claim as a “grave political provocation”.
Pyongyang rejected the accusation after the United States reportedly linked the attack to TraderTraitor, a cyber group associated with North Korea.
The North Korean government said the allegation was an attempt by Washington to damage its international reputation and justify further pressure against the country.
The dispute follows a major security incident involving Binance, during which hackers reportedly stole digital assets valued at approximately $6.3 billion.
US authorities have attributed the operation to North Korean-linked hackers, who have been accused of targeting cryptocurrency platforms and other digital financial systems to generate revenue for the country.
North Korea has repeatedly rejected allegations of involvement in international cybercrime, describing such claims as politically motivated attempts to isolate the country.
The reported Binance breach has also raised concerns about the security of cryptocurrency exchanges and the growing financial impact of cyberattacks on digital asset platforms.
Following the incident, Binance reportedly suspended some withdrawal services while investigating the breach and working with security experts and law enforcement agencies.
The exchange subsequently began restoring services and providing updates on efforts to secure affected assets.
The United States has continued to warn financial institutions and cryptocurrency companies about cyber threats attributed to North Korean-linked groups, which it says use stolen digital assets to support illicit activities.
However, North Korea’s denial means the allegations remain contested between Pyongyang and Washington. Independent technical findings and further evidence from investigators will be important in establishing responsibility for the reported attack.
