‘No Victor, No Vanquished’ — Adeleke Urges Oyebamiji to Congratulate Him

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has extended an olive branch to Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the August 15 governorship election, urging him and other contestants to support his administration.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, was declared winner of the election after defeating Oyebamiji.

Speaking shortly after his re-election, Adeleke said President Bola Tinubu had called to congratulate him even before the final results were formally announced.

He urged Oyebamiji to emulate the President by accepting the outcome and congratulating him.

“Yes, this is no victor, no vanquished. I want them to come over and I’m expecting Oyebamiji to even think as a civilised person, to call and congratulate me,” Adeleke said.

The governor stressed that the election was part of the democratic process, where voters were free to support different candidates.

“This is democracy and some people will vote for you and some people will not vote for you. That’s what you call democracy,” he said.

Adeleke also assured residents that his administration would govern the entire state irrespective of their political affiliations.

“As long as I’m the governor of Osun State, I’m a governor for all, vote for all parties,” he added.

He called on residents who opposed his re-election to set aside political differences and contribute ideas that could help improve the state.

“Please come around, give me your ideas so that we can join hands together and move Osun State forward,” Adeleke said.

The governor also thanked Tinubu for congratulating him, describing the President’s gesture as a demonstration of commitment to democratic principles.

“Thank you, Mr President, for making sure democracy lives on because we fought for it,” he said.

Adeleke further outlined his vision for his second term, saying his administration would focus on transforming Osun from a predominantly civil service-based economy into an industrial state.

“My vision is to make sure that Osun State moves from being a civil servant state to an industrial state,” he said.

The governor’s appeal comes after a closely contested election that saw Adeleke secure a second term in office, with political leaders calling for unity and cooperation following the poll.
