NNPC Targets 600Tcf Gas Reserves, 12Bcf/d Output by 2030
NNPC Ltd. plans to raise Nigeria’s proven gas reserves from 215 trillion cubic feet to more than 600Tcf and increase national production to 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has unveiled plans to increase Nigeria’s gas reserves to more than 600 trillion cubic feet and raise national production to 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030.
The company’s Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, disclosed this on Monday at the 2026 Gas Technology and Exhibition Conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ogunleye said Nigeria currently had more than 215 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, adding that the company was implementing a Gas Master Plan designed to expand the resource base beyond 600Tcf.
He said the near-term target was to increase national gas production to 10 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030.
According to him, the strategy is anchored on the Petroleum Industry Act, the Decade of Gas Framework and the Gas Master Plan, with the aim of using gas to support domestic industrialisation while expanding Nigeria’s export capacity.
Ogunleye said Nigeria was already a reliable global gas supplier, citing the Nigeria LNG Trains 1-6, which have a combined production capacity of 22 million tonnes per annum and have exported more than 6,000 LNG cargoes since 1999.
He added that Train 7 was expected to be completed in 2027.
The NNPC executive said Nigeria’s access to the Atlantic Basin and Asian markets, combined with its substantial gas reserves, provided a strong foundation for expanding its position in the global gas industry.
He said domestic gas utilisation and exports could be pursued simultaneously, allowing the country to generate foreign exchange while improving energy security, creating jobs and supporting economic growth.
Ogunleye also said Nigeria had strengthened the regulatory framework for new LNG projects through the Petroleum Industry Act and fiscal incentives, urging investors to take advantage of the opportunities in the sector.
He identified stable security, competitive gas pricing and reliable supply as important factors for attracting further investment in Nigeria’s gas industry.

Lagos Water Network Serves Only 1.03% of Residents, LWC Says
The Lagos Water Corporation says its distribution network serves 34,424 registered households, equivalent to about 206,444 people or 1.03 per cent of the state’s estimated 20 million residents. The corporation attributed limited coverage to ageing pipelines, rising demand and inadequate infrastructure, while residents reported spending thousands of naira on alternative water sources.
