Nigerian Midfielder Quadri Liameed Hospitalised After Head Injury In Spain
Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed was taken to hospital after losing consciousness following a kick to the head during Sabadell's Spanish second-division match against Albacete. He was later discharged after medical examinations found no further complications.
Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed was rushed to hospital after sustaining a serious head injury during CE Sabadell's Spanish second-division encounter against Albacete.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, when the 24-year-old was struck in the head by Albacete player Jose Corpas, who was attempting an aerial volley during a challenge for the ball.
Liameed collapsed unconscious on the pitch, prompting immediate intervention from medical personnel, who provided emergency treatment before he was taken away by ambulance for further examinations.
The referee showed Corpas a straight red card following the incident, while play was suspended for several minutes as medical staff attended to the Nigerian midfielder.
Sabadell subsequently confirmed that Liameed had regained consciousness and was undergoing medical observation and further tests at a hospital.
The Spanish club later announced that the midfielder had been discharged after his medical examinations returned satisfactory results.
In a statement, the club expressed relief over the development and thanked Albacete's medical personnel for their assistance during the emergency.
Liameed was also cleared to return to Sabadell with his teammates following his discharge.
The incident occurred during a match at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium, where Albacete secured a 2-1 victory despite playing with 10 men following Corpas's dismissal.
Albacete had established a two-goal advantage before Sabadell reduced the deficit through Inigo Aguilar in the 81st minute.
Despite their late efforts, Sabadell were unable to secure an equaliser before the final whistle.
Liameed had featured in all 12 of Sabadell's league matches this season before the incident, recording three assists.
His return to competitive action will depend on further medical assessment and the club's guidance.
