Nigeria’s Oil Output Rises to 1.573m Bpd as OPEC Production Increases
Nigeria’s crude oil production rose to 1.573 million barrels per day in August, up from 1.537 million barrels per day in July, according to OPEC data.
Nigeria’s crude oil production increased by 36,000 barrels per day to 1.573 million barrels per day in August from 1.537 million barrels per day recorded in July.
The increase represents a rise of about 2.3 per cent and places Nigeria’s output close to its OPEC production quota.
The latest figures were contained in the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’ monthly oil market report, which showed that production across the OPEC bloc also increased during the month.
Nigeria’s August output was reported using secondary sources, with the country continuing efforts to raise production and improve its capacity to meet its OPEC allocation.
The increase comes amid the Federal Government’s efforts to attract investment into the upstream oil sector, improve security around oil-producing assets and address production challenges.
Nigeria’s oil output has remained below its potential capacity in recent years due to issues including crude theft, pipeline vandalism, ageing infrastructure and operational disruptions.
The improvement in production is expected to support government revenue and strengthen the country’s position within OPEC as the organisation manages overall supply levels.
OPEC members have continued to adjust production in response to market conditions, with the latest figures showing an increase in overall output alongside Nigeria’s improvement.
