Nigeria’s Envoy to India Presents Letters of Credence

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Saidu Muhammad, has presented his Letters of Credence to Indian President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi.

The ceremony took place on Monday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the Indian President.

According to a statement issued by the Nigerian High Commission in India, Muhammad conveyed the goodwill and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Murmu.

The envoy pledged to strengthen Nigeria-India relations and promote Nigeria’s interests during his tenure.

Muhammad described his appointment as both a privilege and a responsibility, stressing the need to consolidate the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

He noted that Nigeria-India relations extended beyond political and diplomatic engagements to include economic, commercial, cultural, educational and people-to-people ties.

The High Commissioner expressed his determination to attract greater Indian investment to Nigeria, strengthen business-to-business partnerships and facilitate access to the Indian market for Nigerian businesses.

Receiving the credentials, President Murmu welcomed Muhammad to India and congratulated him on his appointment.

She described Nigeria-India relations as being rooted in strong historical ties, mutual respect and shared interests.

Murmu highlighted the importance of economic and commercial cooperation, noting India’s position as a major business and trading partner of Nigeria.

She said there was significant potential for both countries to expand trade, investment and economic cooperation.

The Indian President also acknowledged the contributions of Indian businesses and investors to Nigeria’s economic development and called for stronger private-sector engagement between the two countries.

Murmu expressed confidence that Muhammad’s tenure would contribute positively to further strengthening Nigeria-India relations.

She wished the Nigerian envoy success in carrying out his diplomatic responsibilities.

Five other ambassadors from South Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, Moldova, Germany and Sweden also presented their credentials to the Indian President during the ceremony.
