Nigeria’s Ambassador to Türkiye Presents Credentials to President Erdoğan
Nigeria’s ambassador Saidu Dakingari begins his diplomatic mission after presenting credentials to Erdoğan in Ankara.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, has formally presented his letters of credence to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, marking a key step in the commencement of his diplomatic mission.
The presentation took place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, alongside similar ceremonies involving ambassadors from India, Mali, the Netherlands and El Salvador.
According to Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications, Dakingari presented his credentials to Erdoğan, formally accrediting him as Nigeria’s representative in the country.
The ceremony also involved the ambassadors introducing members of their diplomatic missions and family members to the Turkish president before posing for commemorative photographs.
Following the presentation, Erdoğan held separate meetings with each of the five ambassadors. The Turkish presidency did not provide detailed accounts of the individual discussions in its public announcement.
Dakingari’s accreditation comes as Nigeria and Türkiye continue to pursue diplomatic and economic engagement across trade, education, security and other areas of mutual interest.
The new envoy previously served as governor of Kebbi State from 2007 to 2015. A retired customs officer, he was appointed ambassador by President Bola Tinubu as part of Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.
His assignment in Ankara places him at the centre of efforts to maintain relations between Africa’s most populous country and Türkiye, a country with growing commercial and strategic links across Africa.
Both countries have opportunities to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, education, technology, agriculture and security. Effective diplomatic engagement can help businesses explore new markets, strengthen institutional partnerships and facilitate dialogue on regional and international issues.
Nigeria’s relationship with Türkiye has included government-to-government engagements, commercial exchanges and educational cooperation. The ambassador’s role will include representing Nigeria’s interests, maintaining communication with Turkish authorities and supporting initiatives that advance bilateral relations.
However, the credential ceremony itself did not announce any new bilateral agreements or specific commitments. Any future developments will depend on subsequent diplomatic consultations and decisions by both governments.
The presentation of letters of credence is a standard diplomatic procedure through which a receiving country formally recognises a newly appointed ambassador. With the ceremony completed, Dakingari is formally accredited to represent Nigeria in Türkiye.
