Nigeria Needs Stronger Governance to Tackle Corruption, Mismanagement – NIM
The Nigerian Institute of Management has stated that Nigeria requires stronger institutional governance and improved management practices to overcome systemic corruption and mismanagement impeding national development.
The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) has declared that Nigeria requires stronger institutional governance and enhanced management practices to address persistent corruption and maladministration hindering its economic development.
The President and Chairman of Council of the institute, Abimbola Ayuba, made the assertion on Friday in Lagos during a press briefing to announce the chartered professional body’s 2026 Annual National Management Conference.
Ayuba noted that the three-day conference, scheduled to begin on Sunday at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, coincides with the culmination of activities commemorating the institute's 65th anniversary.
The conference, themed "Sixty-Five Years of Management Excellence: Strengthening Institutional Governance in Nigeria," will gather government officials, policymakers, business executives, and professional managers.
Ayuba emphasized that weak institutional capacity accelerates operational inefficiencies, slows decision-making, and undermines accountability across both public and private sectors.
He stated that the institute remains committed to developing a well-trained, productive workforce and promoting ethical management practices at both corporate and national governmental levels.
According to him, NIM will continue to engage relevant stakeholders, including the media, to ensure that corruption, mismanagement, and social vices become exceptions rather than the norm in Nigeria.
Established in 1961 and chartered under Act 14 of 2003, NIM holds a statutory role in regulating and controlling the management profession across the country.
