Nigeria Hits 1.68mbpd, Sustains OPEC Quota for Four Months

Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate production increased to 1,677,777 barrels per day in August 2026, representing a 0.4 per cent rise from the 1.67 million barrels per day recorded in July.

The latest increase means Nigeria sustained compliance with its Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries production quota for the fourth consecutive month, according to data released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

Crude oil production excluding condensates stood at 1,500,190 barrels per day during the month.

The August performance was attributed partly to the resolution of operational challenges involving the Single Buoy Mooring at the Erha field, which had affected production and evacuation activities in the previous month.

The restoration of normal operations at the facility helped improve overall production volumes, while output across most other producing assets remained relatively stable.

The regulator said operators continued efforts to improve efficiency, maintain asset integrity and reduce disruptions across producing facilities.

Daily crude oil and condensate production ranged between 1.64 million barrels per day at its lowest and 1.71 million barrels per day at its highest during August.

The August output was 6,777 barrels per day higher than July’s 1,671,000 barrels per day based on the rounded figures. However, it remained below June’s 1,735,398 barrels per day.

Among Nigeria’s major terminals, Bonny Terminal recorded the highest average production at 320.04 thousand barrels per day. Forcados Terminal followed with 317.40 thousand barrels per day, while Qua Iboe recorded 171.72 thousand barrels per day.

Escravos Oil Terminal produced an average of 131.71 thousand barrels per day, while Bonga ranked fifth with 92.50 thousand barrels per day of crude oil and condensates.

The regulator said the latest figures reflected continued efforts by industry operators to resolve production constraints and restore affected capacity.

It stressed that timely intervention, effective asset management and stronger collaboration among industry stakeholders remained important to sustaining and increasing production.

The improvement comes amid the Federal Government’s efforts to raise crude oil output, strengthen government revenue and improve foreign exchange earnings.

Nigeria’s ability to consistently meet its OPEC quota also provides an indication of improving production stability after several months of operational challenges that previously kept output below the country’s target.
