Nigeria @66: What I Want Nigerians to Do — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to maintain faith in the country and contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

Tinubu made the call on Thursday in his Independence Day address to Nigerians as the country marked its 66th anniversary.

The President said Nigeria’s future depended not only on government policies but also on the efforts and commitment of citizens across different sectors.

He urged Nigerians to look beyond the country’s current difficulties and remain confident that the reforms being implemented would eventually produce better economic opportunities and improved living conditions.

Tinubu said he wanted to see more Nigerians involved in productive activities, particularly in agriculture, manufacturing, technology and entrepreneurship.

“I want to see more Nigerians making things. I want to see more Nigerian farms feeding our cities and supplying our factories,” he said.

The President also expressed his desire to see Nigerian businesses expand their reach beyond the domestic market and compete internationally by selling locally produced goods and services to the rest of the world.

He particularly encouraged young Nigerians to use their creativity and technological skills to build companies and create employment opportunities.

“I want young Nigerians building unicorns and creating opportunities for others here at home,” Tinubu said.

The President said the government’s responsibility was to create an environment where citizens could turn their ideas and skills into productive ventures.

He highlighted government plans to expand digital connectivity, improve infrastructure, provide access to finance and develop skills required by employers.

Tinubu also said the government would continue efforts to use Nigeria’s gas resources to power industries and support businesses seeking to expand or revive their operations.

He acknowledged that millions of Nigerians were still dealing with high food prices, school fees, healthcare expenses and transportation costs.

The President said his administration understood the difficulties facing households and was working to reduce the cost of living while creating more productive jobs.

He called on Nigerians to work together, maintain faith in the country and focus on production rather than dependency.

Tinubu said Nigeria had passed through a difficult period of economic reforms and that the next phase should focus on translating economic stability into broad-based prosperity.

He urged citizens to contribute to national development in their respective fields, saying the country’s large population, resources, creativity and youthful population could become major drivers of economic growth.

The President concluded by calling for unity, resilience and collective commitment to building a Nigeria capable of providing opportunity, dignity and a better life for its citizens.
