Nigeria @66: Chevron Reaffirms Commitment To Partnership With Nigeria

Chevron has reaffirmed its long term commitment to Nigeria, pledging continued investment in oil and gas production, deepwater development, local content and human capacity development as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

The company made this known in a statement issued to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Day.

Chevron’s Chairman and Managing Director in Nigeria, Jim Swartz, said the company remained confident in Nigeria and continued to view the country as a strategic long term partner.

He said Chevron would maintain its focus on operational excellence, efficiency, innovation and responsible investment across its Nigerian portfolio.

The company said it was expanding and optimising its assets through exploration, infill drilling and production enhancement, while supporting the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and efforts to improve Nigeria’s investment climate.

Chevron also highlighted its contribution to Nigeria’s energy sector through oil and gas production, deepwater investments and gas development.

According to the company, its partnership with Nigeria extends beyond energy production to include local content development, education, healthcare, environmental conservation and community development.

Chevron said its education programmes had benefited more than 23,000 people through scholarships, infrastructure and capacity building initiatives.

The company also noted that its Agbami Medical and Engineering Professional Scholarship Scheme, established in 2009, had supported more than 16,500 students nationwide, including hundreds of first class graduates.

In healthcare, Chevron said its partnerships had supported the construction and equipping of more than 28 chest clinics and nine mother and child healthcare centres, alongside the provision of a medical diagnostics laboratory.

The company further pointed to its contribution to environmental conservation, including support for the establishment of the 78 hectare Lekki Conservation Centre, which was donated to the Nigerian Conservation Foundation.

On local content, Chevron said it continued to work with Nigerian companies and institutions to expand opportunities for local businesses and develop technical capacity.

The company said its commitment was anchored on partnership, collaboration and responsible operations, with the aim of supporting Nigeria’s energy security and broader economic development.

As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, Chevron said it would continue working with the country and its stakeholders to promote sustainable energy development, strengthen Nigerian capabilities and contribute to shared economic growth.
