NFF Sacks Super Falcons Coach, Madugu, Other Technical Crew Members
NFF asks Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu and technical crew to step down after disappointing WAFCON campaign and World Cup setback.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has asked Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu and members of his technical crew to step down with immediate effect.
The federation announced the decision in a brief statement published on its official X account, following the Super Falcons’ disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the NFF stated.
The decision comes after Nigeria suffered a 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Cameroon in the WAFCON quarter-finals, ending the team’s hopes of advancing further in the competition.
The Super Falcons also suffered a major setback in their bid to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria lost 2-1 to South Africa, a result that prevented the team from securing a place in the inter-confederation playoffs and further intensified concerns over the team’s performances under Madugu.
Madugu had faced increasing pressure following the team’s results and overall campaign. The latest decision by the NFF now brings his tenure as head coach to an end, alongside the other members of the technical crew.
The federation did not immediately provide details about the reasons behind the decision beyond the announcement that the technical team had been asked to step down.
Madugu had been responsible for guiding the Super Falcons during a period of heightened expectations surrounding the team, particularly given Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s most successful women’s football nations.
The NFF has yet to announce replacements for Madugu and the other members of the technical crew.
The federation is expected to begin the process of appointing a new coaching team as preparations continue for upcoming international competitions and the rebuilding of the Super Falcons following their disappointing WAFCON campaign.
