‘Never a Friendly Game’ for Brazil, Says Ancelotti Ahead of India Match

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that his team will approach its upcoming friendly against India with maximum seriousness, saying there is “never a friendly game” when representing the national team.

Brazil will face India in Kolkata on October 3 in what will be the first senior men’s international involving the five-time world champions on Indian soil.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Ancelotti said the match would form part of Brazil’s preparations for future major competitions, including the 2028 Copa América and 2030 FIFA World Cup.

“It’s a preparatory game, a friendly, but for us, there’s never a friendly game. When you play for the national team, you have to always do your best,” Ancelotti said.

The Italian coach said the fixture would also allow Brazil to assess players and experience different football cultures and playing styles.

Ancelotti said Brazil’s rebuilding process was underway following the 2026 World Cup, with the team looking to combine experienced players with younger talents.

He identified players including Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhães, Bruno Guimarães, Raphinha and Vinícius Júnior as part of the experienced core around which Brazil intends to build its next generation.

The coach said Brazil’s extensive pool of talent makes selection highly competitive, with the technical team monitoring dozens of players across leagues in Europe, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Brazil will arrive in India after a friendly against Australia and will use the international window to continue preparations for the next cycle.

For India, the fixture represents a rare opportunity to face one of the most successful teams in international football.

Ancelotti, who has never previously visited India, said he was excited about experiencing Kolkata and learning more about Indian football.

He acknowledged the difference in international experience between the two sides but said playing against different opponents remained valuable to Brazil as it develops its squad.
