NDC Cites Vetting Delays in Campaign Council Inauguration, Manifesto Release

The Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC has attributed delays in inaugurating its Presidential Campaign Council and releasing its manifesto ahead of the 2027 general election to ongoing vetting and due diligence.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the leadership was taking time to ensure that the campaign council reflected competence, unity and credibility.

Director explained that the party was carefully reviewing prospective appointments to ensure that members of the campaign team aligned with the strategic objectives of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He said the process was intended to produce a disciplined and results-oriented campaign structure rather than one assembled hastily.

According to him, the party is conducting due diligence to ensure that individuals appointed to the council possess the competence and credibility required to contribute meaningfully to the campaign.

Director added that the decision on when to inaugurate the council had been left to Obi and Kwankwaso, who would determine the date for its formal commencement.

However, the party did not announce a specific date for the inauguration or provide a timeline for releasing its manifesto.

The Presidential Campaign Council is expected to coordinate the NDC’s nationwide campaign, manage engagements with stakeholders and communicate the party’s electoral message to voters.

The manifesto is expected to outline the party’s policy priorities and proposed responses to Nigeria’s political, economic and security challenges ahead of the 2027 polls.

The delay leaves the timing of the party’s formal campaign launch and public presentation of its policy agenda uncertain as preparations for the general election continue.
