NCDC Identifies Two New Suspected Ebola Cases in North-East

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the North-East region, prompting further surveillance and response measures.

The agency disclosed the development on Saturday, saying both individuals had been placed in isolation while health authorities conducted laboratory tests to establish whether they were infected.

It added that contact identification and listing were ongoing to determine whether other people might have been exposed to the suspected cases.

The NCDC stressed that the classification of the individuals as suspected cases did not mean they had tested positive for Ebola, noting that confirmation would depend on laboratory results.

The agency urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, practise improved sanitation and follow public health guidance as investigations continued.

It also assured the public that further updates would be provided as verified information became available.

The development comes amid Nigeria’s response to an Ebola outbreak involving the Bundibugyo virus species. The country confirmed its first case on October 20, 2026, involving a woman who had travelled from Uganda.

The NCDC has continued surveillance and contact tracing as part of efforts to prevent further transmission.
