NCAA Fines RwandAir N15m Over Unresolved Baggage Complaint
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has fined RwandAir N15 million and ordered the airline to replace a passenger's damaged luggage and pay $170 in compensation over consumer protection violations.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has sanctioned international carrier RwandAir with a fine of N15 million for failing to address a passenger's baggage complaint within the mandated timeframe.
The regulatory enforcement was disclosed in a statement by the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu.
Achimugu stated that the sanction followed the airline's non-compliance with consumer protection provisions governing the Nigerian aviation industry after it failed to resolve the passenger's luggage issue.
In addition to the monetary penalty, the regulatory authority directed RwandAir to replace the passenger’s damaged baggage immediately.
The aviation regulator also ordered the airline to pay the affected passenger $170 as first-need compensation.
The NCAA noted that the directives and penalties were imposed in strict accordance with the provisions of Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which governs passenger rights, baggage handling, and mandatory remedies.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing consumer protection standards across domestic and international carriers operating in Nigeria to ensure passenger grievances are addressed within prescribed regulatory limits.
