NASENI Unveils Nigerian-Made Electric Vehicles, Solar Systems, Smartphones, Others
NASENI unveils over 40 locally developed products, strengthening Nigeria’s manufacturing, technology and industrialisation drive across sectors.
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has unveiled more than 40 products developed across renewable energy, transportation, agriculture, healthcare and information technology.
The products include electric vehicles and tricycles, CNG conversion solutions, solar irrigation pumps, solar home systems, solar streetlights, batteries, smartphones, rapid diagnostic kits and clean cookstoves.
The development is part of NASENI’s efforts to transform Nigerian research and engineering ideas into products, factories, businesses and jobs.
The agency’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Halilu, said Nigeria had engineers, researchers and innovators but needed stronger systems to move ideas from development to the market.
He said NASENI was building an innovation-to-industry pipeline linking talent discovery, research funding, incubation, product development, financing, manufacturing and market access.
The approach is intended to prevent innovations from remaining as prototypes without a pathway to production.
NASENI said it awarded N229 million in research commercialisation grants to 14 researchers in 2025. The projects covered agriculture, clean energy, healthcare and mobility.
The agency is also developing a 40-hectare Solar Industrial Park in Gora, Nasarawa State, as a platform for solar research, manufacturing, testing and deployment.
It said local production initiatives were being advanced for solar streetlights, mounting structures, photovoltaic modules, inverters and batteries.
In agriculture, NASENI is deploying solar-powered irrigation technology through the Irrigate Nigeria Project, aimed at helping farmers produce throughout the year while reducing dependence on petrol and diesel-powered pumps.
The agency is developing an electric vehicle assembly facility at Abuja Technology Village, with capacity to support production of electric vehicles, including the NASENI Electric Keke.
In addition, CNG conversion and reverse-engineering centres have been established in Abuja to support cleaner transportation.
NASENI is pursuing manufacturing capacity in healthcare through the NASENI-Troment Rapid Diagnostics Factory in Abuja, expected to strengthen domestic production of medical diagnostic products.
The agency said it had established more than 50 partnerships covering renewable energy, automotive technology, agriculture, healthcare, defence, aerospace and research.
Halilu said the next phase would focus on scaling commercial production, improving standards, factory utilisation and market adoption.
He added that NASENI’s success would be measured by products manufactured and sold, jobs created, local suppliers engaged and investments mobilised.
